emdr THERAPY and EMDR intensives

What is EMDR therapy?

Per the EMDR International Association, "EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories".

The process of EMDR allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.

EMDR is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method.

What are EMDR intensives?

EMDR intensives are accelerated, condensed EMDR sessions (2-4 hours per day) within a short period of time.

Intensives can be helpful for people with busy schedules, who are highly motivated and want quick results, and who need relief as soon as possible.

Intensives allow the opportunity to progress through your symptoms in a more succinct and focused way without the interruption in treatment with weekly 60-minute sessions.

EMDR intensives can be done as adjunct therapy if you already have a primary talk therapist.

See below for more information about EMDR intensives, including cost and insurance information.

Some examples of why clients choose EMDR intensives:

  • The need to feel relief is important and urgent.  The pace of one-hour sessions every week isn't going to cut it. Intensives allow time to dig in and address urgent needs without the confines of only one hour.

  • You are experiencing negative effects from past distressing life events and want to knock it out all at once instead of prolonging treatment and feeling relief.

  • You are in a new relationship and want to process trauma to give the relationship a chance to flourish. Addressing issues early on can help avoid pitfalls.

  • You are entering a new phase of life (retirement, parenthood, divorce, etc) and want to have a fresh start with less emotional baggage. You are ready to invest in yourself by setting aside the time and resources to tackle the issues that have been holding you back.

  • You are motivated to make positive changes in your life and don't want to self-sabotage or be held back by negative beliefs about yourself. You want to jumpstart your progress now that you have awareness.

  • You acknowledge that childhood/adolescent trauma may be affecting your parenting with your children. You're starting to recognize the effects of your unprocessed issues and want to parent more effectively ASAP.
